iOS 4.1 glitch lets you bypass lock screen to access Phone app, photo album (video)

Your iPhone's passcode entry can't block everything, it seems -- at least not with iOS 4.1. We're hearing various reports that simply inputting a random number in the emergency call field, pressing call, and then promptly hitting the hardware lock button will take you to the Phone app, thereby granting you access to the call history, voicemail, and address book. We've tried this with iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4, all with the same result. We can't get out of the field without trying to place a call, and after that we're still stuck back at the passcode screen. Additionally, selecting "share contact" and then the camera icon will give you access to the photo album. Pay mind that your particularly paranoid pals could probably use this to see if you really did stop calling your ex and delete all his or her pictures. We won't judge, but they will. Video proof of concept after the break.

Update: Feel free to hold down the menu button to access voice control and play some locally-stored tunes while you're at it. And if you've got 4.2 beta like some of our staffers do, this "trick" should work just the same.

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Samsung Galaxy Beam projector smartphone helped to light up the lives of the Chilean miners

Samsung Galaxy Beam projector smartphone helped to light up the lives of the Chilean miners
Did you hear the one about the trapped Chilean miners? Turns out they were a little bit under the weather. But, seriously folks, living in a cave for a couple of months is no fun, and thankfully those guys had a crew of support people sending down all sorts of toys. One of those toys, we're now learning, was a Samsung Galaxy Beam Android projector phone, loaded with a "message of encouragement" from Chile's Mining Minister along with a recording of an exhibition soccer match between Chile and Ukraine (which we were previously told was beamed down via fiber optics ). We have to admit feeling the smallest pang of jealousy, as down there is one of the few places where a six lumen pico projector is more than bright enough.

Kanye West's 'Runaway' Reminds Ballet Dancers Of 'Swan Lake'

'The manner that they ran out really looked a little bit like 'Swan Lake,' ' one dancer tells MTV News of the ballerinas' entrance.

Kanye West still has everyone talking about his epic music video/ short film "Runaway." The film's story is all about "remaking" and "expression," some experts have told MTV News.

Regarding the powerful dance sequence in the film, set to the piece's title track, MTV News recently caught up with two seasoned New York City ballet dancers, Alina Dronova and Gwyneth Muller, to get their take on 'Ye's addition of ballet into his artful mix.

"I thought the part where the girls run out and they're wearing black tutus — the manner that they ran out really looked a little bit like 'Swan Lake,' " Dronova said. "In the movie, the girl represents a bird [Selita Ebanks as a phoenix], and 'Swan Lake' is also about a bird, so there was a bit of a connection there with it. I thought that was a very neat element, very interesting."

Muller added that West seemed to know what he was doing, given the subtle hints to "Lake," both with the choreography and costumes worn by the dancers.

"He got it pretty right, as far as their entrance into the video when they ran in, in lines of two; that is very reminiscent of 'Swan Lake,' " she said. "And the black tutus, that was interesting, because in 'Swan Lake,' the title character wears both a white tutu and a black tutu, and when she's in a black tutu, she's supposed to represent an evil character, and all of her sinister elements come out. So it was interesting that he put them in black."

West told us earlier that his motivation for adding ballet to the film was tied to his love of classic dance in general.

"I was just moved by the classic dance, and I just wanted to crash it against the pop music," he said. "[I love] film and actual theater, and just mixing those things together and getting as many people that are experts in their field to help me bring this vision together. That's what I'm looking for right now."

What did you think of the ballet in "Runaway"? Let us know in the comments!

Joe Finley: Someone Killed My Wife!

Two days after his wife was found dead, an America's Got Talent contestant named Joe Finley has made a public plea: Someone killed her!

Laura Finley was found dead in a stairwell at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles on early Saturday morning. She was in town because Joe wanted to audition for the NBC competition.

Joe Finley, Wife

Considered a person of interest, Joe was actually arrested for drug possession the day Laura died. He's admitted both he and his wife were on ecstasy the night she was found and that he last saw Laura alive around 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Her body was discovered five and a half hours later.

"Somebody threw her off that railing," Joe told TMZ today, adding that Laura's death was "100% not an accident" and, of course, that he did not kill her.

Joe says he awoke early Saturday morning and his wife was missing. He then asked the hotel to page her over the public address system - and then left for his audition around 2 p.m. Cops stopped him on the way, showed him a picture of his wife's injured face and then took him into questioning.

After a few hours, the police released him and Joe still went to the audition, despite admitting that he thought his wife was dead.

We'll have more on this story as news breaks.

Taylor Swift and Jake Gyllenhaal: Spotted Around NYC!

Is the world ready for Gyllenswift?

According to witnesses, Taylor Swift was backstage at Saturday Night Live this weekend, supporting friend and host Emma Stone. But the singer wasn't alone: Jake Gyllenhaal was by her side.

“She looked like she was dreaming while she was there," reports Lainey Gossip. "And they left together. And they’ve been seen all around New York together: brunch, shopping, what people do when they start dating."

What do you think of the potential for Gyllenswift/Swyllenhaal?

Swift has been in the news a lot lately, mostly because her new album comes out today, but also because at least one of the singles off it is clearly dedicated to John Mayer. And not in a good way.

In other words: if this rumor is true, the 29-year old Gyllenhaal - who dated Reese Witherspoon for two years - might wanna be careful. He doesn't want Taylor to title a song "Dear Jake" on her next CD.

HTC 7 Pro squares away its FCC approval?

So, here's what we know: a Windows Phone from HTC just earned its FCC wings, it's production (meaning non-prototype) hardware... and it's a CDMA device. That alone is notable considering that Microsoft has said that CDMA won't be available until the first half of next year, and here we are in October with an FCC-approved, production-ready device waiting in the wings already. We're not the type to be floating conspiracy theories, but could it be that we're dealing with an artificial delay here, or is the CDMA software stack really that far away from being solid? Anyhow, if we had to guess, this is probably the tilt-sliding 7 Pro, seeing how that's the only CDMA Windows Phone 7 device to bow so far, equipped with 802.11b / g / n alongside Bluetooth + EDR. Sprint, let's make this happen.
